After a Skiurlaub Tirol is Spring Hiking Time

April 8, 2009 – Now that spring is in full bloom in Tirol and the skiurlaub season is over, it’s time to take you hiking gears and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the Alps.  Tirol offers several hiking trails accessible for all levels of hiking abilities.

The trails of St. Johann, Austria will take you thru some of Tirol’s breath taking scenery like its mountain tops, rivers, forests and lakes.  Visitors can choose from hundreds of kilometers of hiking trails and even better, nine themed hiking paths. 

Adlerweg Trail – This trail which is also known as “Walking in the Realm of the Eagle” starts in St. Johann and ends in the scenic Lechtal valley.  No need to worry about getting lost, even though this trail will take you through high mountains, cool woodlands, and meadows, it is a fully mapped trail.

Grossache River Experience – This trail is not just meant for hikers but for cyclist as well.  It will take you along the shores of the Grossache and will end with Erpfendorf. 

This trail is perfect for the whole family with its designed water theme area that includes many resting areas that are well suited for picnics and more.

Jakobsweg – The name of this trail literally translates into, “The Way of St. James” and is a 15 kilometer trail that runs thru through part of the route pilgrims used to travel to get to Santiago.

A fairly easy trail that can turn into an overnight trip thanks to the many farmhouse and guesthouses along the way.

Kairserbachtal Valley – This 5 kilometer trail starts at kirchdorf am Wildern Kaiser and takers you through the scenic Kaiserbachal valley.

Hikers will reach an altitude of 1,024 meters and get enjoy the many romantic alpine streams.  Don’t forget to visit some of the alpine taverns on this hike where you can taste  some of the finest regional cuisine.
 
Teufel Gasse – This trail takes a bit of climbing to get to there but it is well worth it.  Teufel Sgasse or “Devil’s Way” is an 8 kilometer trail that will take you thru an enchanting and picturesque forest all of the way to Hinterberg.

Grießbachklamm/Angerlalm – This trail is considered one of the most beautiful and romantic hiking trail in the St. Johann area.

Hikers get to experience a 5 kilometer hike thru crystal clear waters and unspoiled natural beauty.

Mine Experience Trail
– One of the easier trails in the St. Johann vicinity, this 1.5 kilometer trail will take let you discover the history of mining in Oberndorf.

Forest Experience Trail – If you are a tree lover you will love this hike.  The Oberndorf municipality has placed aside this 1.5 kilometer hiking trail, which consist of wetlands, bogs and many more ecological attractions.

Even though it’s not a skiurlaub in Tirol, it is worth your while to discover Tirol in the spring with a family fun hiking adventure. So whether you want to be adventurous and take or simply enjoy one of the themed hiking paths, Tirol has it all for you.
