St. Johann is not just about a Skiurlaub in Tirol (Ski Holiday in Tirol)

February 19, 2009 – Skiurlaub Tirol is usually the first thing that comes to mind when the town of St. Johann, Austria is mentioned to someone. And why should it no? St. Johann is the perfect location for a ski holiday due its impressive first class ski slopes that covers 182km of runs, modern ski lifts and cable car facilities.
St. Johann however is more than just a tourist and mining town that lies in the valley basin between the Wilder Kaiser and the Kitzbüheler Horn mountain range. It actually offers many cultural and historical sites of interest as well as holds the Koasalauf, one of the biggest cross country races.
St. Johann is considered by many to be a historical market town which is situated in the Leukental which extends from Jochberg to the Streichen close to the Bavarian border. The region was first settled around the 4th century by a Celtic tribe and it was not until the 8th century that missionaries built a Catholic church after John the Baptist thus naming the town St. Johann in the process.

A must see event if you are there in July is the Jaggasn summer night festival where in the day you get to walk around town and enjoy traditional food and drink. When night comes that is when the partying begins where locals and tourists alike get to enjoy traditional bands as well as a few not-so-traditional bands.
If you are in luck, an interesting event could be happening when you arrive in St. Johann at the Kaisersaal which is the St, Johann modern event hall. The Kaisersaal, a term derived from the mountain chain, “Der Wilder Kaiser” holds many events of interest like lectures, corporate events and rock concerts.

Of course, going to St. Johann should be all about enjoying a ski holiday in Tirol but if you want to take a day off from skiing in the slopes of the Wild Kaiser, take a tour of the city to discover its cultural side.
